No doubt it is sad when any human passes through their time on earth. But, I find it rather interesting in the case of celebrities since, they come to represent so much of our culture at large. Their passing more or less symbolizes something more. Cory Haim had been almost completely cemented in the late 80's. About two decades ago now. Where does someone like that find their place in our culture today? Only a few of his contemporaries have managed to transcend that time into now.
In 1987 the release of The Lost Boys managed to completely eclipse Near Dark (Kathryn Bigelow's own teen vampire film). In addition to her Oscar wins, perhaps she's finally gotten her revenge. Maybe Cory should've just gotten bitten, then he'd live forever...
